Brandon Backgammon Bay
December 2010
Ireland
There are a couple things that really make living in Ireland a special experience. Ireland's west coast is for sure one big plus. Beautiful landscapes that seem utterly dramatic garnished with rough, deadly cliffs and an incredibly powerful ocean. No matter where you live in Ireland - max 3 hours later you are at Ireland's west coast to enjoy the extreme and pure nature. But there are also nice sheltered spots that are perfect for water sports - like Brandon Bay for surfing. Franzi and Jule were travelling from Dublin to Brandon Bay to enjoy this beautiful spot down in the south west of the island. They were blessed with almost empty lineups and nice, clean and heavy waves pushing into the bay.
Franzi wins!

The massive swell coming into Brandon Bay is obviously not enough for Franzi and Jule. So what to do if slightly bored by the lousy surfers in the lineup? Indeed - a sweet and relaxed 7 point match. Not sure what the swell period was like that day, but it seems as if they would have enough time to properly think through their backgammon moves. As you can see on that snapshot, Jule is about to throw the doubling cube at Franzi.. I would certainly pass... Jule eventually won the match and Franzi had to paddle back to the shore saving the backgammon board. In the meantime Jule had a couple more nice waves...
Hurry up - the new set is coming! Nice (surf) session, ladies!
For everybody else - you might enjoy two Irish surf movies - well worth watching!
